‘HALLA BOL’------- ‘The Tornado’ is Coming

(कामरान खान)

Wow! What a thrilling match we’ve had today between Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) and Rajasthan Royals(RR) in the IPL. This was ‘the’ match we all were yearning for long. What a nail-biting finish to the match! I’m so excited and thrilled that I’m feeling like jumping, screaming, shouting at top of my lungs. My excitement can easily be gauged from the fact that it’s 2 AM at midnight and here I’m writing this blog post. I couldn’t have waited for tomorrow as it would have been difficult generating the same excitement and feeling that I’m experiencing right at the moment.

The tied match between KKR and RR, which ultimately the RR won via a ‘SUPER-OVER’ would be remembered as ‘ONE OF THE BIGGEST DAYS IN THE HISTORY OF THE IPL’. I agree with you Ravi! On a personal note, this exciting match will be remembered for the resurgence of an old warrior in SAURAV GANGULY who, for the umpteenth time proved his critics wrong by taking his side KKR almost through to a win. ‘DADA’ as he’s fondly called by fans proved that he’s not yet over the hill and by no means a spent force even in the latest avatar(Read T20 cricket) of cricket. This match also marked the emergence of a new star—Rajasthan Royals’ ‘Tornado’ KAMRAN KHAN. This blog is all about the man who has won hundreds of admirers like me with his extraordinary rise---KAAMRAAN खान.

This 18-year old rookie from Ajmer has been touted as the ‘next big thing’ in world cricket by none other than the legendary spin Wizard Shane Warne. Young Kamran’s journey to a RR berth has been nothing short of being a सेंसेशन. What a fairytale entry he has had. He showed tremendous character and nerve when he was asked to bowl the final over in the match when Saurav Ganguly was still on the crease and KKR needing just 7 runs off 6 balls. But the 18-year old Kamran held his nerve and didn’t get cowed down by the huge reputation of the ‘Prince of Kolkata’. He not only got Ganguly out but only contained the runs which gave us the opportunity to watch the ‘SUPER OVER’—a commodity which was still unknown to many cricket buffs like me.

It’s not only the win that has prompted me to sit in front of my PC and write a blog post at this untimely hour. I found a couple of things really inspirational and striking. My respect and appreciation goes out to the young Kamran who despite being hit hard and deep by destiny and poverty, showed unbelievable grit and determination and kept the fire in his belly burning. A place in the RR team is just a beginning for this talented and spirited fast bowler. It feels really great to see underdogs fight all odds and make their way to the top by dint of hard work, perseverance, patience, belief and honesty. I can straight away connect people like KAMRAN. If induces a new sense of hope and confidence that if he can do it, why can’s I? People like KAMRAN and not to mention Saurav Ganguly are inspirations for youngsters like me.

The other thing that struck and impressed me the most was the faith shown by the RR skipper Shane Warne on the rookie Kamran. Warne never fret or showed signs of getting annoyed or rattled whenever Kamran bowled a wide bowl or conceded a boundary. Warne was as calm as an ocean. He was constantly by the side of Kamran cheering him up and easing his nerves. Well that’s what raw talent need--- support, encouragement, opportunities and assurance that there’s always somebody to pick them up whenever they fall. That’s what leadership is all about and that’s the way to go about nurturing a talent. Really it takes a talent to spot a talent. Hats off to Warne & Co. and the man of the moment—the new star on the block---KAMRAN KHAN. It’s half past two in the morning. I need to go to bed now. So, I’ll be signing off now. But for the moment--- HALLA BOL!
